Henk Brat - Attorney and Mediator for Entrepreneurs and Professionals

Henk Brat Corporate M&A Mediation

Are you dealing with a shareholder dispute or a business conflict? As a certified MfN mediator and experienced attorney, I guide entrepreneurs, shareholders, and partners in resolving business conflicts in ways that work. Especially when relationships between shareholders, joint venture partners, or business partners have reached an impasse, it’s valuable to work with someone who understands the legal complexities and who also has an eye for what’s really going on between the people involved.

My approach: curious, open, and non-judgmental

In a mediation process, the participants take centre stage. I’m naturally curious and can listen with an open mind, without judgment. Together with the parties, I explore what’s really going on—including what isn’t being said out loud. This way, we get to the heart of the matter step by step and arrive at a solution that works for both sides.

Expertise

My background as an attorney gives me sharp analytical insight into the parties' interests and legal positions. This combination—mediator and attorney—allows me to quickly grasp complex business situations and keep the process moving toward a concrete, realistic outcome. I focus in particular on:

  • disputes between shareholders

  • conflicts between joint venture partners

  • disputes between partners and associates

  • business disputes within professional service firms

Background and Education

In addition to my law practice, I have gained board experience: as an entrepreneur (owner of a staffing agency, sold in 1996), as a managing partner at various law firms, and as a board member at a healthcare institution. I successfully completed the “New Style Supervision” program at Ebbinge’s School of Leadership and attended, among other courses, The Harvard Negotiation Intensive in Boston. This broad background enables me to adapt quickly even in complex situations and to understand parties at every level.
