Flip van Huizen studied Dutch law at Tilburg University. He began his career in 1978 at the Insurance Supervisory Authority of the Netherlands (Verzekeringskamer), going on to join the Insurance Institute at Erasmus University where he worked from 1981 to 1990. Towards the end of the 1980s Flip obtained his doctorate cum laude. His thesis was on the subject of the transport insurance sector, and was awarded the research price of Erasmus University and the Hudig Langeveldt prize.

Since 1990 he has been a professor of commercial law at Utrecht University, and since 2000 has also been working as a lawyer, initially with Koster & Claassen Advocaten and later with Van Mens & Wisselink, both law firms in Rotterdam. Flip joined BANNING in 2009 as a lawyer and partner, and is part of the Commerce & Logistics practice group. Thanks to his many years of experience he may truly be regarded as a specialist in this area. Insurance is of course a major area of work in the Commerce & Logistics practice group, but Flip is also involved with professional liability matters, particularly of financial advisers.
