Willem Claassen studied Dutch law at Leiden University and European law at Europa College in Bruges (Belgium). He also studied at Hanover College in Indiana (USA).
He began his career in 1973 as a legal counsel in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Willem has been practising as a lawyer since 1976 and was one of the founders of Koster, Claassen, Smallegange of Rotterdam, a law firm that traditionally focused on transport by water. Gradually this traditional practice increasingly integrated road and other transport. Over the years Willem has built up enormous experience as a lawyer in this area. He has been Dean of the National Bar Association in Rotterdam since 2008. Willem has been working at BANNING as an off-counsel since 2009 and is working on developing and expanding the Commerce & Logistics practice group.
