Trade & Logistics

The Netherlands has a long tradition as a trading nation, and to this day the Dutch economy relies heavily on international commerce. Thanks to its strategic location in Western Europe, the Netherlands has carved out a position as the ‘gateway to Europe’.

Business transactions are characterized by short time limits, multi-party relationships and an international dimension. Laws and regulations concerning trade and logistics tend to be complex, which is due in large part to the impact of international treaties and European regulations.

The lawyers in our Trade & Logistics practice group are seasoned professionals, advising companies on all aspects of business transactions, starting with the purchase contract. This document often serves as the basis for all trading transactions, facilitating the flow of goods. Our team drafts and evaluates contracts and general terms and conditions, advising you how to best incorporate them into your business.

Our expertise covers all modes of transport, including sea, inland waterways and road.
In addition to advising you on liability if your goods are not delivered or are delivered damaged or too late, we can also assist you in related areas such as shipping, storage, physical distribution and agencies. Furthermore, we have the knowledge required of transport-related insurance to allow us to assist and support you, working together with our colleagues in the Liability and Insurance practice group.

Although our aim is to prevent legal action as much as possible, the legal team in the Trade & Logistics practice group have extensive litigation experience in district courts, courts of appeal and national and international arbitration bodies. They can also assist you in urgent matters such as levying and raising attachment and conducting interlocutory proceedings.
